Right after our three days wedding in Tuscany, my man and I took a direct flight from Rome to Santorini. Six days, two islands, that was our pretty attractive program for our first honeymoon. Inspired by the numerous pictures of the Cyclades on Pinterest and by the memories I had from Greece from when I was little, we thought it would be the perfect destination for a relaxing and romantic gateway together. And it was!
Clear blue sky and waters, almost untouched beaches, lovely people, good food, amazing landscape, Greece gathers everything at once in a sweet and folkloric way, I find.
Starting our journey in Santorini, we chose to stay at the Hotel 28 in Kamari. Kamari itself lacks charm and was packed at this time of the year but the island is not too big and going from one point to another is pretty easy (you can rent a buggy, a scooter or a quad at literally every corner, such much fun!). Hotel 28 was a perfect choice, the owners were wonderful. They gave us excellent insider recommendations on what to do and where to go. I still recall the taste of the tzatziki and grilled salmon I ate at Psaraki restaurant on Vlychada beach as well as the delicious apple crumble/pie from the Enigma café in Fira. The capital, was crowded, and, under such a heat, the visit of the city was a challenging episode. Still the views from the caldera are amazing. Definitely something you have to see once in your life.
A buggy ride later, we decided to head north to Hotel Kapari in Imerovigli, a beautifully designed hotel in a small neighborhood north of Fira. Everything there was calm and luxury. The view from our room was amazing and the infinity pool, although small, was our favorite afternoon spot. Again staff was really nice and helpful. We watched the sunset in Oia (a classic) and ate a delicious (yet expensive) lobster at Katina, a fish tavern in tiny Ammoudi port.
The next day we hitted the road to Pyrgos, a small village in the center of the island which offers great panoramic views due to its situation on top of a hill. We had the best of lunch at Brusco, a cute grocery/wine bar/restaurant/cafe down the village. On the menu, local beers, Cretan apaki, tzatziki & pita bread as well as a marvellous apple pie (again) for dessert.
Next stop will be the wild Folegandros and its charming Chora! Hope you enjoy the ride!
