Island hopping in Greece – Folegandros

Chora

I don’t know about you, but I’m still hanging on to Summer, remembering Folegandros, its lovely Chora and coves. Here is the second part of our adventures in the Cyclades. Enjoy!

Chora

After 3 days wandering around Santorini, we took a 45 minutes ferry to the wild and off-the beaten track Folegandros. Only 600 people live on this little island between Sikinos and Milo. First foot on the ground, complete change of scene, far away from the craziness of Santorini’s port Athinios. Karavostasis, the island’s port, is small, pretty and not overcrowded. We arrived in heaven!

We spent 3 nights in Blue Sand Hotel, on Agkali beach, one of the only beaches of the island accessible by car. A usual it seems in Greece, we were very well welcomed by Katerina, the manager. The rooms were perfectly designed and last but not least, there were Korres products in the bathroom, heaven I told you! : )

Most of the beaches on Folegandros are only accessible by boat or by foot, after a couple of hours walk. So we chose to do both, walking to Agios Nikolaos and from there taking a small boat to Livadaki beach, a pretty inlet with no restaurant or bar. On the way we stopped in a beautiful tiny cove, with crystal emerald water where we actually spent the most of our days.

Now, one of the best asset of the island is definitely its capital, Chora, an oh-so charming village, full of cool restaurants sprinkled on numerous cute squares. The atmosphere there is so romantic, we spent hours wandering around the tiny streets of the village and its castro. We had a drink at the Beez bar and ate at Chic and then at O Kritikos. Both restaurants were ok but if I can give you a tip, arrive early in Chora, wander around and book a table. The village gets very lively at night and it can be hard to find a table at the best restaurants.
